As part of a major extension to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, a programme of new building led to the creation of a large enclosed courtyard. A public art competition was held as part of the Percent For Art scheme run by Brighton Health Care with the aim of finding an artist to provide a sculpture for this courtyard.

I proposed a statue of the Ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis. Central to the myth of Isis was how she used her wings to breathe new life into the old and sick. She was seen as a maternal figure and a symbol of growth and nourishment and was often portrayed with a vulture's head-dress. Hence the sculpture is a metamorphic figure, half bird and half woman.

(2.5m x 60cm, marble resin)
